A Christological Christmas Part 4- God in the Flesh (John 1:1-18)

Main Point (v14-18) at the incarnation, God becomes what we are: fleshy, dirty, familiar, and ordinary so we can receive what he is: glory, the fullness of grace and truth- or grace upon grace. Bottom line: Jesus, the Word, Reveals God to Hearers so that

1. Hearers May See His Glory
2. Hearers May Receive His Grace
3. Hearers May Declare His Truth

A Christological Christmas Part 3-Jesus Born So We Could Be Adopted Children of God (John 1:1-18)

Main Point (v 9-13) John wanted us to know that Jesus was born so that God could adopt you by His grace.

1. We Should Seek to Know Our Adoption Status
2. We Should Seek to Know Our Neighbor’s Adoption Status
3. We Should Seek to Know Our Adopted Father

A Christological Christmas Part 2: the True Light (John 1:1-18)

Main Idea: v 4-9 teach that Jesus, the true light.came to vanquish the darkness.

3. Jesus the True Light Shines Presently, v5, 9

A Christological Christmas Part 1- Very God of Very God (John 1:1-18)

Main Idea: Only the Jesus of scripture can save you from your sins and reconcile you
to God...He must be these three things:

I. Jesus is Eternal
II. Jesus was with God
III. Jesus was God

Thanks Be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 7:14-25)

Main Idea: The Christian life consists of thanksgiving to God based upon the blessings we have received, we are receiving, and we will receive from Him.    

1. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord for past blessings  
2. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord for present blessings    
3. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord for future blessings

Inner Conflict with the Flesh (Romans 7:14-25)

We are on our 2nd of 3 sermons on Romans 7:14-25

Main Idea: The Christian life consists of an internal battle with the flesh whereby we wrestle with our bad love and cultivate a good hate as we grow in our delight in God  

1. A “Love” that is bad. The flesh unchecked.  
2. A “Hate” that is good. The flesh subdued.  
3. The Christian’s Battle yields Perplexity, Sorrow, Gratitude, Joy, Christ-centeredness, and others focus.  
   

Advanced Christianity (Romans 7:14-25)

Main Idea:  Advanced Christianity consists of growing downward into these two convictions regarding two wretched men.  

1. That I am a wretched man in need of salvation in particular ways.    
2. That God became a wretched man to save particularly wretched me.  

The Reformation: Big God Theology

Matthew 15:10-11/Jonah 2:9b

Main Idea: The Reformation of 1517 marked the rediscovery of big God theology.
