Main Point: In Romans 8 we have learned the gospel, that believers in Christ are not only uncondemnable and formerly enslaved to sin, but now due to the ministry of the Holy Spirit, all believers are made sons of God complete with a new identity, new intimacy, and new inheritance of sonship.

Main Point: In Romans 8 we have learned believers in Jesus cannot be condemned (v1-4), are made alive to God (v5-8), dwell in vital union with Jesus by the Spirit dwelling in them and their dwelling in the Spirit (v9-11), and are tasked (v13) with life and death struggle of putting to death the deeds of the body by the Holy Spirit.

Main Point: Only those who cannot be condemned (v1-4) and are made alive to God (v5-8) will be able to believe in Jesus and live as one who is ready to die to his or her old ways.

1. Before the Spirit, our hearts were idol factories with no desire to please
   God. Our past was darker than we remember
2. With the Spirit, our present life is full of potential.
3. Because the Spirit is God, our future is brighter than we can imagine.

Main Point: Faith in the Gospel affords believers assurance that he or she is
uncondemnable.

1. Uncondemnable Identity, from now on not defined by my keeping the
   law.
2. Uncondemnable Surety, because Jesus did what I could not do, kept the
   law.
3. Uncondemnable Purpose, to walk according to the Spirit.

Main Point: How can Christmas teach me how God brings peace to the earth?
I. God’s peace will be born when He is born in Bethlehem. 2-5a
II. God’s peace will be opposed by many. 5b-6
III. God’s peace will be IN his people like dew from heaven. 7ff

Main Point (v14-18) at the incarnation, God becomes what we are: fleshy, dirty, familiar, and ordinary so we can receive what he is: glory, the fullness of grace and truth- or grace upon grace. Bottom line: Jesus, the Word, Reveals God to Hearers so that

1. Hearers May See His Glory
2. Hearers May Receive His Grace
3. Hearers May Declare His Truth

Main Point (v 9-13) John wanted us to know that Jesus was born so that God could adopt you by His grace.

Main Idea: v 4-9 teach that Jesus, the true light.came to vanquish the darkness.

Main Idea: Only the Jesus of scripture can save you from your sins and reconcile you
to God...He must be these three things:

II. Jesus was with God
III. Jesus was God
